Concertul Blind Date -lumina dincolo de întuneric

How it would feel to experience no space, no time, just Creation through music? How it would be to experience sound and music as the only dimension you have?

Perhaps, you might think, it is not possible. But it is. The sensations are difficult to be spoken into words, almost impossible. But it is one of the most insightful experiences I’ve ever had during Blind Date, concert in the dark, performed by Cesare Picco in Ferrara. It was as if there was no perception of space, time stood still, in spite of piano and string quartet’s tempo.

I went to Ferrara to Teatro Comunale (a real architectural joy!) and I allowed myself carried away into this Blind Date concert experience. I and another 900 souls who attended.

I am sharing a perception of the event and take it as it is. Personal.

I’ve been haunted by this idea for while (concert in the dark) and when I discovered Cesare Picco’s Blind Date concerts I felt like I have to experience this. It was more than a musical runaway. Going to Ferrara was not a simple city break. It was a journey.  It was metaphor.

Blind Date concept and humanitarian implications

Blind Date is concert into complete darkness performed by Cesare Picco, composer, pianist and writer. The Blind Date tours started in 2009 and behind the concept dwells an act of giving.  

The concert is organised by CBM Italia Onlus, an NGO that fights against blindness among children in poor countries. And when I say “fight” I mean the team is involved into every aspect in order to bring change into people’s life. Not words, but deeds. They organise concerts and charity events, like Blind Date, to collect funds and support surgery for people who suffer from bilateral cataract, and then they follow the patients’ evolution.  

The concert has three parts. The light is on and slightly diminishes till the concert hall is submerged into complete darkness. There are 30 minutes of musical thrill, then rays of light occur into the darkness, as sunrise into the night.  The entire concept is an allegory for losing sight, being blind and recovery after surgery.
 

As I perceived it, the entire concert could be  as well a metaphor for life itself. Don’t rise the stone! This is who I am!:)

My expectations

I left Bucharest considering this concert as a total different experience and I was right in sense, but not as I expected. I considered that, in the absence of light, my hearing acuity would be better.

The real experience,  deeper than expectations

Actually, It and I felt different. I don’t know if my hearing sensitivity improved, but the entire overall awareness was changed.  During the “blind” concert, somehow I had no perception of space. At a point, for a second, I had  a funny thought that I am not bound to my chair any longer, but I can be anywhere in the concert hall or anywhere else.  Somehow, without seeing things, they dilute and become concepts.  Strange as it seems, I felt that beyond sound was nothingness.

That thought made me realise the good and evil of darkness and challenged me to deeply empathise with the blind children. There was an entire shift in the way I regarded the concert as a whole.

The light and darkness beyond sound

I went for the concert, considering only slightly the humanitarian implication of it. The entire concept light – darkness – light made me empathise with people suffering with bilateral cataract.

It had been a frenzy for me to discover a world of light beyond sound. It challenged me to a lot of  questions “what it would be like if…”.

But I stood in light of sound and darkness of sight for a short while. Blind people are confronted with darkness in every aspect of their life.

I found out about Cesare Picco looking for a concert in the dark. I was looking for experience, not a specific soloist. After all, I listen music with my soul, I am not a musical titrate.

During  my research, I found Cesare Picco’s name (and Youtube channel 🙂 ) in  the late 2015 and since I kept returning and listening from time to time, till I realised that I had to attend Blind Date concert.  The innovation, the improvisation, the courage to approach different musical pathways seemed intriguing enough for me to keep listening. And pack up and travel for the concert! 🙂

Another thing and, again, it is a personal point of view.  I felt that beyond all he does (music, concepts, projects, whatever) there is a Special inspiration that he translates it into music and deeds.  

I was fortunate to meet Cesare Picco after the concert. I found him as an authentic human being in complete resonance with what he is. He performs because he has a gift, he shares joy through music because he can and he cares.

The act of giving

After the concert, people stayed in queue to give donations. I haven't ever seen such an act  of giving before, not here, in Romania. I don’t know if it was the cause, the empathy arisen from the “blind” side of the concert, the people, the NGO.  I was simply happy that was happening. It was a lesson. We should speak less, care more and things might change.

I don’t know if you have ever had that feeling that something came into your life because it had to? It is the way I felt after I returned from Ferrara. All I have to say is thank You!

Cum ar fi să nu conștientizezi  spațiul, timpul, ci doar Creația prin muzică? Cum ar fi să trăiești sunetul și muzica ca singura dimensiune pe care o ai?

Ai crede că nu este posibil. Dar așa este. Senzațiile sunt greu de spus în cuvinte, aproape imposibil. Dar una dintre cele mai profunde experiențe pe care le-am avut vreodată a fost  în timpul Blind Date, concert în întuneric, susținut de Cesare Picco în Ferrara. Era ca și cum n-aș mai fi conștientizat spațiul, timpul se oprise,  în ciuda tempoului pianului și al cvartetului de coarde.

Am mers la Ferrara la Teatro Comunale (o adevărată bucurie arhitecturală!) și mi-am dat voie să trăiesc experiența acestui concert. Eu și încă 900 de suflete care au participat.

Vă împărtășesc o percepție a evenimentului și luați-o așa cum este: o opinie personală.

Am fost bântuit de această idee  de o bună vreme  (concertul în întuneric), iar când am descoperit concertele Blind Date ale lui Cesare Picco, am simțit că trebuie să experimentez acest lucru. Era mai mult decât o  escapadă muzicală. Mergând la Ferrara nu a fost o doar un city break.  A fost o experiență prin călătorie. A fost metaforă.

Conceptul concertului Blind Date și implicațiile umanitare

Blind Date este concert în întuneric complet realizat de Cesare Picco, compozitor, pianist și scriitor. Turneele Data Blind Date au început în 2009, iar în spatele conceptului se află un act de dăruire.

Concertul este organizat de CBM Italia Onlus, un ONG care luptă împotriva orbirii în rândul copiilor din țările sărace. Și când spun "luptă" vreau să spun că echipa este implicată în toate aspectele pentru a aduce schimbarea în viața oamenilor. Nu cuvinte, ci fapte. Organizează concerte și evenimente de caritate, precum Blind Date, iar fondurile colectate sunt folosite pentru susținerea intervențiilor chirurgicale pentru persoanele care suferă de cataractă bilaterală.  Mai apoi urmăresc evoluția pacienților.

Concertul are trei părți. Lumina este aprinsă și se diminuează până când sala de concerte este scufundată în întuneric complet. Sunt 30 de minute de emoție muzicală, apoi în întuneric apar raze de lumină, ca răsăritul soarelui în noapte. Întregul concept este o alegorie pentru pierderea vederii,  trecerea de la vedere – orbire – recuperarea vederii după intervenția chirurgicală.

După cum l-am perceput, întregul concert ar putea fi, de asemenea, o metaforă a vieții în sine. Nu ridicați piatra! Asta sunt eu! 🙂

Așteptările mele

Am părăsit Bucureștiul considerând acest concert drept o experiență total diferită și am avut dreptate, dar nu după cum mă așteptam. Am considerat că, în absența luminii, acuitatea auditivă ar fi mai bună.

Experiența reală, mai profundă decât așteptările

De fapt, a fost și m-am simțit diferit. Nu știu dacă sensibilitatea auzului meu s-a îmbunătățit, dar întregul sistem de conștientizare s-a schimbat. În timpul concertului în "orb", nu am mai avut percepția spațiului. La moment dat, pentru o clipă, mi-a apărut un gând amuzant cum că aș putea  la fel de bine să nu mai fiu în scaun, aș putea fi oriunde în sală sau chiar oriunde în altă parte. Într-un fel, fără a vedea lucrurile, se diluează și devin concepte. Ciudat, după cum pare, am simțit că dincolo de sunet nu era nimic.

Acest gând m-a făcut să-mi dau seama de binele și răul întunericului și m-au provocat să  empatizez altfel cu copiii orbi.  A fost o întreagă schimbare de paradigmă în modul în care am privit concertul.

M-am dus la concert, considerând prea puțin implicarea umanitară a acestuia. Întregul concept de lumină – întuneric – lumină m-a făcut să empatizez cu oamenii care suferă de cataractă bilaterală.

Era o frenezie pentru mine să descopăr o lume a luminii dincolo de sunet.  Toată această experiență m-a provocat la multe întrebări "cum ar fi dacă …".

Dar eu am stat în lumina sunetului și a întunericului ochilor  doar pentru o scurtă perioadă de timp. Oamenii orbi se confruntă cu întunericul în fiecare aspect al vieții lor.

Am aflat despre Cesare Picco căutând un concert în întuneric. Căutam experiență, nu un solist specific. La urma urmei, ascult muzica cu sufletul,  nu sunt un titrat în muzică.

În timpul documentării mele, am descoperit numele lui Cesare Picco (și canalul lui Youtube :)) la sfârșitul anului 2015 și am ascultat din timp în timp până când mi-am dat seama că trebuie să  trăiesc concertul "Blind Date". Inovația, improvizația, curajul de a aborda căi muzicale diferite păreau destul de interesante pentru mine să continui să ascult. În final să îmi fac bagajele să merg la concert! 🙂

Un alt lucru și, din nou, este un punct de vedere personal. Am simțit că, dincolo de tot ceea ce face (muzică, concepte, proiecte, orice), există o inspirație Specială pe care  el o traduce în muzică și fapte.

Am avut norocul să îl întâlnesc pe Cesare Picco după concert. L-am găsit ca  pe o ființă umană autentică, în totală rezonanță cu ceea ce el este. El face pentru că are un dar, împărtășește bucuria prin muzică, pentru că poate și îi pasă.

Actul de  a dărui

După concert, oamenii au rămas în coada de așteptare pentru a da donații. Nu am văzut niciodată un astfel de act de dăruire, nu aici, în România. Nu știu dacă a fost cauza, empatia care a apărut din partea "orb" a concertului, a oamenilor, a ONG-urilor. Am fost pur și simplu fericită că s-a întâmplat. A fost o lecție. Ar trebui să vorbim mai puțin, să ne pese mai mult și lucrurile s-ar putea schimba.

Nu știu dacă ați avut vreodată sentimentul că ceva a venit în viața voastră pentru că a trebuit? Așa m-am simțit după ce m-am întors de la Ferrara. Tot ce trebuie să spun este Îți multumesc!
